Autumn is a time of transition to the quieter months but there is still a lot to do in the garden.
Vegetables and fruit
If you have a vegetable garden, the late harvest can still be a time of abundance and you can even plant some over-wintering vegetables. It’s a good time to think about adding nutrients or compost to the soil so that the beds are fertile and ready for next year’s planting. Town and Country Gardens can offer guidance or assistance when you use us for your garden maintenance in Wimbledon.
Autumn is also a great time for picking and eating all the soft fruits like blackberries, raspberries and elderberries. Hopefully you, or someone in your household, has the skill to turn these into jams and pies. We’ll be happy to test them out for you while we’re helping with your garden maintenance in Wimbledon!
Leaf raking
If you have a deciduous tree in your garden with medium to large leaves then you are going to need to face the idea of raking. Once trees start to shed their leaves, they begin to layer up on the lawn pretty quickly. Leaving them there might seem tempting but it can create a lots of problems for your lawn besides the way that it looks.
Lawns need room to breathe and covering them up can lead to brown or overly damp patches of lawn which can lead to moss or bare spots come the spring. Fortunately, leaf raking is one of the tasks that Town and Country Gardens is happy to perform for you when we are doing your garden maintenance in Wimbledon. We take the hard work out of making your lawn look good at any time of year.
There’s no hard and fast rule for pruning as different shrubs and trees prefer different times of year. However, late autumn is a time when many varieties are becoming dormant for the winter and this can mean that it is less stressful for them to be pruned at this time. Talk to us about what you want in terms of shape and growth for your shrubs and trees and we can offer you advice.
